Mundane Existence?

Last year I made sure I posted one post a day (at least) but then time passed by and here I am, hesitant and unwillingly reluctant on writing about anything! Sometimes I get laden with myriad habits of thoughts of living in the world of going to do with very less done, a fad I should say, but at least it gets me going and then coming back into it to complete. A mundane existence I should say or just my habit to revel in optimism!

I don't live with one resolution a year, in fact, I got one every month or perhaps everyday (I should say)! Now am I going to promise myself to post something everyday today onwards? Absolutely not, cause I'll get caught! As every imperfect human being, I like to cheat, lie and go the other way sometimes, without getting caught!! Don't you???

Himalayan Night!

Well, Himalayan Night once again came into existence in the University of Bridgeport. I attended it yesterday and it sure did rekindle the nostalgic feelings whilst in school. Watching the current antsy Nepalese students in their quest to bring about perfection in the long awaited pageantry of culture and tradition just took me down memory lane! It was fun and we did manage to pass the baton onto the later generation!

Morons!

While driving, doesn’t it annoy you when someone takes a turn without having his signals on? I get vexed, infuriated and stupefied by such drivers. The sudden deceleration after a steady speed to make a turn (without signal) puts me in peril and wonder if it is so strenuous to flick your fingers, indicate and drive on? Morons!

Armed Robbery!

One of our stores got robbed yesterday! Armed robbery, just like the movies! Three masked men enter the Subway restaurant and demand money from the clerk and the seven customers who were already in there ordering food, having them lay flat on the floor!

They looked professional and sure were quick. But their efforts, in vain, walking away with just about $136 and a customer’s Coach Handbag, who did not fail to boast about its originality and the huge stack of cash that she was carrying. Just a minute before the raid she was broke, expressing her harsh life tale to the clerk working her way towards a free meal.

To come back to the burglars, leave us alone! We do not carry too much money in the register, not enough to buy you dope for sure!

The End: Just too Early

A tragic end to a career just blossoming! Heath Ledger’s death came as a surprise when my brother text me with the news. I kind of liked him for the roles he played, not that he portrayed my story in any of his movies, but just the kind of a person he was, drew my likeness towards him. Of course my girl’s a big fan, so she was of Kurt Cobain, whose death too, was devastating, an end to the production of great music, something that can never be imitated or reproduced in any way possible. Nirvana, the band that rocked the world and would have continued to do so even today! Heath, perhaps, was on the verge of doing so in the world of acting but the end came just too early, too early for his well wisher to digest!

Greed!

It’s quite unbelievable how greedy people can get! After my undergraduate degree, due to the poor job market, I landed up opening a Subway sandwich restaurant. This was the first business I ever owned and had an indistinguishable inspiration about the way to run a business and the utility bills that it incurred. I always disdained the reality that we had high utility bills and did my best to control it. Alas, in vain!

However, I sold the store last year, not sorely due to this cause but due to other issues too. Well, I was relieved it was sold. Now there would be no worries about astounding bills to deal with. After several months of ownership, the new owner discovered the fact that the landlord was stealing utilities in my expense! I had never taken my doubts to the extent to suspect the landlord, a man, well reputed in the community, owning more than a dozen motels, gas stations, construction companies, luxury cars such as BMW, Lexus, Hummer H2, Mercedes Benz S500, Porsche Cayenne, Cadillac Escalade etc (these are the few that I have seen him driving) and of course a beautiful wife, of degrading himself to this extent.

The store lay within his motel complex. The motel’s laundry room and a few of his suites with Jacuzzi were linked to my store’s electricity and heat bill. The store ran a heat bill of approximately $500 in the month of July last year!! Curious as he was, the new owner hired some professionals and dug into the fact and discovered some illegal pipe lines and wires in un-welcomed locations!

Darn you stingy millionaire!

Procrastination is the Thief of Time!

New Year’s resolutions are just the way for me to procrastinate today’s work for another and when the time comes, I am left with nothing done! January 1st, 2008 was the day I set to get things done. This was the days I was going to start working out, to be more organized, to start eating right, to cut down on drinking and smoking, to control my temper etc.

Phew! Now to come to think about it, I think I’m pressurizing myself to the extent of losing control of my discipline. As I go on writing and proofreading at the same time, looking at my list of my “things to do” makes me realize the imperfection in me laden with heaps of awful habits that I simply cannot get rid of! Well now to convince myself, I guess this year, even though with that extra day in February is just too less for me. I need more time and many more years for I still remain the person I am, living a life of going to do and with nothing done. However, I fearfully hope that this procrastination is not the thief of my time!

Misguided by the GPS!

I used to go berserk when the GPS in my car guided me the wrong way especially during extreme weather conditions. It was not as bad as what one man experienced today. It was in the news that a man, misguided by his navigation system was led into a railroad track. To add to his misfortune, the wheels got stuck and the car refused to budge.

Thanks to his guiding angle as he managed to get out on time just before the car was smashed by the Metro North train. He escaped with no major injuries but was minutes away from getting killed.

It’s scary that we’ve gotten so dependent on machinery to get things done. Ever since I’ve had my GPS, I’ve never bothered to pick up a map to go places. I have been misguided but just shrugged it off as a minor error of the gadget! Now it makes me think!
